What to Expect in Your First Week at Be Like Water (No Experience Needed)

Walking into an MMA gym for the first time can feel intimidating. You might be wondering:

  • Am I in shape enough for this?

  • What if I don’t know anything?

  • Is everyone going to be way more experienced than me?

At Be Like Water, we hear these concerns all the time. The truth is simple. You are exactly who our gym is built for.

Here is what your first week will look like so you can walk in with confidence.

Day 1: Walking Through the Door

The hardest part is showing up. Once you do, you will quickly realize something important. Everyone started as a beginner.

When you arrive at Be Like Water, you will be welcomed by our coaches and introduced to the space. You will not be thrown into anything overwhelming. Everything is structured to help you ease in.

Expect:

  • A quick introduction to the gym and how classes run

  • A light warm up

  • Basic techniques designed for beginners

No one expects you to be perfect. Showing up is already a win.

Your First Classes: Learning the Basics

During your first few sessions, the focus is simple. Learn, move, and get comfortable.

Depending on the class, you may try:

  • Jiu Jitsu fundamentals such as positioning and simple submissions

  • Muay Thai or kickboxing basics like stance, punches, and light pad work

  • Judo fundamentals such as balance and controlled movement

You will not be sparring right away. That comes later once you have a foundation and feel ready.

Coaches will guide you step by step, and training partners are there to help, not judge.

What About Fitness?

A common concern is not being in shape.

You do not need to get in shape before starting. Training is what gets you in shape.

Classes are designed so you can go at your own pace. You might feel tired during your first few sessions, and that is normal. Within a couple of weeks, your endurance will improve and movements will start to feel more natural.

The Environment at Be Like Water

One of the biggest surprises for new members is the atmosphere.

Instead of a hyper competitive environment, you will find:

  • Supportive training partners

  • Coaches who take time to teach

  • A team focused on growth and respect

Ego is left at the door. Progress is what matters.

What You Should Bring

Starting is simple. You do not need much to begin.

For your first week:

  • Comfortable workout clothes

  • Water

  • A willingness to learn

If you decide to continue, we will guide you on any gear you might need.

By the End of Your First Week

After your first week, you can expect a few things:

  • You will feel more comfortable walking into the gym

  • You will recognize basic movements and terminology

  • You will already feel improvements in your energy and confidence

Most importantly, you will have taken the first step toward something new.
